Friday, May 11th United Ambulance held one of their annual
car washes. Twice a year associates of United Ambulance and volunteers
set aside a day and hold a car wash to raise money for an area
charitable institution. This year the Hospice of Guernsey County was
chosen to be the recipient of all proceeds from the event.
Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. The goal of hospice care is to improve the quality of a patient's last days by offering comfort and dignity. Hospice care is provided by a team-oriented group of specially trained professionals, volunteers and family members. Hospice addresses all symptoms of a disease, with a special emphasis on controlling a patient's pain and discomfort. Since 1995 United Ambulance has made nearly $10,000 in contributions to local organizations including the American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, Guernsey County Cancer Society and the Hospice of Guernsey County. These donations have been made possible through the hard work of several dedicated associates of United Ambulance and the contributors who attended the car wash. United has tentatively scheduled their next car wash for August of this year.
